AB  - In the Vengeance Raguidel, Raoul de Houdenc relies on his knowledge of the topoi of the narrative repertoire and on his ­public’s knowledge of it to put them to test through the principle of insertion. The vengeance motif works as a framed tale for the stories told by the protagonists, stories which are, however, an integral part of the diegesis, even those that have a life by themselves, like the Lai du Cort Mantel and the Chevalier à ­l’épée.
