AB  - Analyzing the insertions in the Roman de la Rose by Guillaume de Lorris ­comes down to show that the poem is a reflexion on the debt owed by arts of love and romances to courtly lyric and the myth of Narcissus. The result is an aesthetic of depth, born of the narrative technique of insertion ; it appears through the use of the “mise en abyme” as well as through embedding strategies. The poem explores the dialogue between different forms of discourses on love, about the role of the image in love.
