AB  - In this article the historical evolution of Spanish adverbs delante, detrás, adelante y atrás is studied. These adverbs interact semantically in the modern language and show an unequal geographical extension in the Spanish-speaking community. Their particular usage in the modern language can be explained by the nature of their formation process and the competitive relations which their meanings have developed throughout their history.
