AB  - Our goal is to use the concept 
of occurrence to reexamine the mass/count distinction as applied to nouns. Specifically, we will focus on the enumeration trait, which is an essential characteristic of the mass noun vs. count noun dichotomy. The concept of occurrence creates a paradox: accepting the existence of occurrences of mass nouns is a rebuttal of the continuous trait typically used to characterize mass nouns; but, acknowledging their discontinuity makes enumeration a possibility. So how can these nouns be both discontinuous and non-countable? Our study will attempt to solve this paradox by applying the concepts of occurrence and situation of occurrence to the count concrete noun vs. mass concrete noun dichotomy.
