AB  - the aim of this study is to bring together the main claims and results relating to the existence and properties of what the author refers to as the null article in French, with a special emphasize on the constraints it assigns to a noun phrase. The study rests upon an abundant corpus, and starts by bringing out the main properties of such an article in the structure support verb + NP. The second part of the study is devoted to show the link between the null article and other phenomena concerning the noun phrase, and to claim – on the basis of the above mentioned properties – that there is a null article also in such constructions as prepositional noun phrases.
