AB  - Pope Pie XII and Paul Claudel deeply admired each other. Claudel wrote a magnificent text about Pie’s election. Pie XII as a highly cultured man did appreciate the poet’s works. He agreed to attend a performance of The Tidings to Mary in the Vatican, which unfortunately broke down. They disagreed about only one thing: the new Latin translation of the Psalms, which Claudel rejected as a betrayal to his beloved Vulgate.
