AB  - Gide was long in indicating his interest towards Claudel’s works, notwithstanding their aesthetic nearness. It’s to his religious echoes that in 1905, as he was working on The narrow Door, he shows himself sensitive, but keeping to the literary creation the fervour that Claudel turns towards religion. The Gide upholding in a state of fight, while Claudel demands a choice, later contributes to part them. (The return of the prodigal son). But Gide will keep on admiring Claudel, and to try to hold him back in The NRF.
