AB  - “Diversion” is to avoid the thought of death by various means. But just when Montaigne comes to evoke those “petty, superficial images” which “divert” us, the argumentation becomes confused: the examples of these “images” which the author gives us are precisely those things which make the survivor regret the one which has died. Far from distracting us, they facilitate an affective relationship with death.
