AB  - In writings on music from the second half of the seventeenth century, beauty breaks away from the hierarchy of styles and is seen to result from a “masterly touch” which deviates from “good composition”. Paradoxically, the mastered transgression which confers genius on a work escapes the norm. The « je ne sçay quoi » of the sublime represents an alternative to the Aristotelian model of an ordered nature.
