Abstract:La Conquête de Plassans depicts a provincial, legitimist village upset by the arrival of an ambitious priest, sent by the Empire in a move of political provocation. A sign of both private and social disarray, the Mouret's house emerges as the microcosm in which an intense power game is played out.
