Abstract: “To recognise someone is to compare a current perception with a memory”, declares Ricœur in Soi-même comme un autre. By associating recognition and comparison, he gives credit to the latter by conferring on it two tropisms precisely constitutive of the personality of Peter Schnyder – recognition and the humanities – in such a way that the article also presents itself as a “course of recognition”, to adopt an expression used by Ricœur in a work of the same name.
