Abstract: This study reexamines the question of fictionality in “Alchimie du verbe”, the second part of the central diptych “Délires” in Une saison en enfer (1873) and an autocritical text par excellence in which critical prose alternates with quotations from poems composed by the poet the previous year. It does so with reference to two major studies published recently by Steven Murphy and Michel Murat.
