Abstract: In a sonnet included in a letter that he wrote to Adrien Juvigny, Maurice Bouchor spelled Verlaine’s name as “Verleyne”, twice. This essay proposes to read this spelling as a way to glean further insight into the biographical and poetic ties between Verlaine, Bouchor, Juvigny, and Paul Bourget.
