Abstract: In a search for the impersonality Verlaine’s first writings seem to obey the coldness and the calm of his times though irony often distorts their meaning. In his later poems the author intends to forget lyricism but keeps on expressing feelings and life. His quest of impersonality remains endless and ambiguous.
