Abstract: Gérard de Nerval’s apparently fanciful interest in the Celts involved investigating the origins of the cults of the Gallic ancestors before the Christianized Franks came to power. In his Valoisien tales, interspersed with mythical Celto-Gallic settings, the author succeeded in recreating his lost paradise in that country, free from all mental, social, and temporal constraints, where all beloved beings live forever, conjured up by the power of memory.
