  • Abstract: Roger Nimier wrote about the French theatre of the day in some one hundred columns between the weekly journals Opéra (1951–52) and Le Nouveau Candide (1961–62). In the tradition of Léautaud's Théâtre de Maurice Boissard, this criticism aims to be trenchant and irreverent toward long-established positions. A reactionary orientation and the rejection of didacticism lead him to attack socially engaged plays and undervalue the Nouveau Théâtre. Not without dandyism, Nimier favors the text and denounces vulgarity, boredom, and pretension.
