Abstract: Despite frequent characterisations of an ‘Impressionist’ or ‘Cubist’ Proust, Proust aligned himself with the movement contemporary to his own style – art nouveau – in his ethics as much as in his conceptions of art. An intermedial stylistic perspective allows us to see the way in which, using verbal material, Proustian writing pursues the same aesthetic quest as these architects and artisans.
