- Abstract: In the text of the Recherche and in the sketches dwell a hundred or so episodes of involuntary memory, defined as the particular sensation which makes the passive hero recall and relive a memory. Instead of the ecstasy associated with the best known episodes, this memory finds itself linked to transgression and suffering. The memory’s signifiers illustrate the mechanism which engages it.
