- Abstract: An analysis of titles (literal for the Penguin version, in opposition to the “unfaithful” and poetic titles of Scott Moncrieff) illuminate the “paradoxes of literality”, given Proust’s own bias regarding the “sourcist” retranslations of his time (Augustin Thierry, Leconte de Lisle, Mardrus), expressed in particular in the texts and pre-texts of Sodome et Gomorrhe.
