Abstract: How can Proust be translated into Basque, a language that could almost be qualified as a “museum piece”, given how different, how archaic it is? Two translators propose alternative solutions, measured in terms of the linguistic horizons of two Basque regions: Joxe Arrieta, from Donostia – San Sebastián (Spanish Basque Country) and Jean-Baptiste Orpustan, from Basse Navarre (French Basque Country).
