Abstract: This volume decodes and analyses the necessities, practices and issues that underpin the process of changing or rewriting denouements in 18th and 19th-century theatre. Of strategic importance and of a sensitive nature, the revision of a play’s ending mobilises all those involved in theatrical activity as it moves from page to stage or from initial performance to later revivals and foreign adaptations.
