- Abstract: This referential ramble studies how the particular use of his favourite dictionary, the 1846 Bescherelle, is symptomatic of Raymond Roussel’s position between two centuries. Registers jostle against each other in the Bescherelle and Roussel makes use of this to compose his baroque narratives. Certain words lend themselves more specifically to this, for example « note », as illustrated in the Nouvelles impressions d’Afrique.
