Abstract: Henry Céard, "disciple" of the Médan group, drew heavily on the caricatures used by Zola. A reading of his articles and novel, Terrains à vendre au bord de la mer, sheds light on this collection which testifies to his tortured relationship with Zola, and the mechanics of Zola's writing.
