- Abstract: Theocritus derives a rich poetic interplay from the proteiform nature of dedication, such an ambiguous concept : praise of great men, address to the gods, dedication to his friend Nicias, bucolic fictionalisation. These variations testify to the richness of the concept and the skilfulness of a precursor.
