- Abstract: Synaesthesia in poetry is often interpreted as a sign of modernity. However, in his prologue to the Roman de la Rose, Jean Renart compares the insertion of lyrical pieces to a process of dyeing objects scarlet, la graine, while Peire d’Alvernha evokes troubadours who create songs in maintas colors. The springtime strophe of troubadours and trouvères is a liminal space in which the synesthetic quest is expressed and in which perfumes, colours, and sounds echo to each other.
