- Abstract: “We cut the hair of the clerks off above the ears, so that the five senses of their head are free and unblocked for the service of God”. In this way, Guillaume Durand illustrated in his thirteenth-century Rational des divins offices the link which existed between the corporeal and spiritual senses in liturgical practice. This study focuses on a liturgical manuscript of 1350, the Pontifical de Pierre de la Jugie, which presents an illuminated series in which the question of the five senses in put into text and image.
