• Abstract: In the Kurdish-speaking communities of Armenia, mourning, exile, and heroism are expressed through a specific system of utterances. Blending ethnography, acoustic analysis, and linguistics, the author shows that this use of the voice constructs a form of ideal life linking the living to the absent and deceased.
