Abstract: While the two-fold requirement to instruct and please has marked poetic discourse surrounding the fictional account from Antiquity to the modern era, the pivotal period constituted by the years 1480 to 1530, with regard to the brief narrative, elaborated new ways for the two principles to coexist. This contribution shows how profit and pleasure of narrative were reconciled through a practice of moralisation which made the moral a source of pleasure.
