Abstract: This article sketches out a study of the evolution of descriptive forms in the work of Rabelais, from Triboulet’s coat of arms (Tiers livre) and the anatomy of Quaresmeprenant (Quart livre) to the episode of the brother Fredon (Cinquiesme livre). By comparing the specificities of the mix of poetic and thematic genres at work in each list of words, the analysis demonstrates the evolution of the dichotomous technique of the author in the representation of strange beings.
