Abstract: Since the 1990s, sixteenth-century research has made considerable advances in the examination of a genre often neglected because it was considered suspect: the novel. Four types of approach are currently contributing to the exploration of both known and less well-known works: bibliographic, linguistic, literary, and critical editing. A survey of the most significant studies of the last twenty years provides us with an overview of the conceptual foundations and methods of each analytical perspective.
