Abstract: How can the infinite varietas of the world be illustrated? How to find unity in divided elements? How are lists, so characteristic of the Rabelaisian corpus, inserted into the plot of a narrative? These are some of the questions examined in this article, which is guided by a conviction: Rabelais does not dream up words on the spur of the moment, but rather establishes lists liked organised bodies, capable of imitating the innumerable resources of a prolific nature.
