Abstract: The Rymes de […] Pernette Du Guillet are interpreted as an ingenious and enlightened composition by Maurice Scève’s protector. The reader is entitled to assume a certain naivety of form and subject matter, associated with the youth of the official author. The article interrogates this reading and proposes a rhetorical approach to the work to reveal a more mature and astute aesthetic.
