- Abstract: Sometimes subtly, and sometimes easily perceptibly when the question of metrical regularity is at stake, rhyme and the caesural position are already the object and terrain of a series of “singularities” in Rimbaud’s verse corpus prior to 1872–1873. Far from constituting a pointlessly gratuitous poetic game, this article shows how such “singularities” frequently and strategically focus the reader’s attention on the questions and functions of form, rhyme and the signifier, and thus play a key role in the overall interpretation of the poems in question.
