Abstract: The aim of this study is to shed some lighjt on the stylistic means used to name
diseases as revealed by the interlingual variations between English and French. It emerges
that these processes have developed over the last few years by making greater use of
toponymy and orthonymy, resulting in the internationalization of medical terminology. In
spite of this development, terminology with its roots in history and culture continues to
exist, as made manifest though metaphorization and eponymy.
