Abstract: In the work of both La Boétie and Rousseau, there is a shared attempt to think through the anthropological conditions of servitude. André Charrak and Laurent Gerbier examine this attempt and show that, on the one hand, the idea of condition defines the continuity of nature and denaturation and, on the other, it is a very particular use of the imagination which means that, based on this continuity, free nature can be thought about right at the heart of denaturation.
