- Abstract: Collections of accounts with an edifying vocation (« clergies » romance) continue and re-orientate the poetics of romance. This study shows that the marvellous proceeds according to an analogical logic which is articulated in line with two distinct registers: where certain reinvest the marvellous with edifying aims so as to confirm the royal election and the power of the initiated over knowledge, as in the Sept Sages de Rome, others refuse to unite the marvellous and the clergy.
