« En petit d’ore Deus labore » (Estula, v. 137) Miracles, fabliaux et la main de Dieu
- Publication type: Article from a collective work
- Collective work: Motifs merveilleux et poétique des genres au Moyen Âge
- Author: Trachsler (Richard)
- Abstract: With some rare exceptions, each time that a character from a fabliau thinks he is confronted with a marvel, it is mostly a question of a subterfuge put in place to fool him. This is the case with the protagonists of Estula who are not dealing with a talking animal, but a banal case of theft. It is therefore pointless to summon the exorcist, the specialist in supernatural matters, who is just as incapable as the peasants of facing the world as it really is: devoid of transcendence.
