• Abstract: In Wauchier de Denain’s literary production, the topics and motifs linked to the cerastes and crested serpents reappear in two separate works which are inscribed in the context of hagiography and the novel (Histoire des Moines d’Égypte and Second Continuation). This article shows that the author demonstrates a refined generic consciousness, keeping the marvellous of romance separate from the hagiographic supernatural.
