Abstract: This is the first study dedicated to the philosophy of the passions in Montaigne’s work. It presents the wisdom of Montaigne in a new light. Theoretically original, Montaigne’s anthropology of the passions is an influence on thinkers of the classical age, particularly Descartes and Hobbes.
