Le rôle joué par la métaphore dans la traduction au xvie siècle

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work:
Métaphore, savoirs et arts au début des temps modernes
  • Author: Molins (Marine)
  • Abstract: Because of the subjectivity it implies, metaphor was at the centre of the debates which divided translators in the Renaissance. How to transfer phenomena from one language to another, particularly when these phenomena go beyond the simple fabrication of images and surround themselves with diffuse effects proper to each language? Translators thus need to make choices. The best translators were those who knew how to find metaphorical equivalents as poetic as those of the source texts.
