  • Abstract: For Erasmus, a metaphor is a figure which, more so than any other, gives an expression the flavour of a proverb. Following Aristotle’s example, he conceives of it as a vector of meaning and an instrument of knowledge. On the one hand, metaphor is able to recompose reality by bringing two different terms together. On the other hand, it transposes the languages and disciplines of Antiquity into the present, illuminating Christian wisdom with a new light.
