- Abstract: Robbe-Grillet’s amusing yet ambiguous formula is revealing of the way the sentimental novel coexists with novelistic modernity in the work of Marguerite Duras, given the importance which she accords to romantic passion. An analysis of the Ravissement de Lol V. Stein demonstrates the ways in which the novelist takes up and transforms the topoi of the genre.
