- Abstract: The theme of love, notably the question of why lasting love is impossible, is inscribed at the heart of Camille Laurens’ œuvre. She treats the sentimental genre as an intellectual: with irony, erudition, and by drawing on psychoanalysis. Yet she also exploits the traditional popular vein of the sentimental novel through the use of intertexts: tale, crime fiction, song, and cinema.
