- Abstract: Leprince de Beaumont set great store by the Sacred texts in the same spirit of toleration and acceptance of the scientific study of the natural world as the major figures of the religious Enlightenment. To teach children virtue, « we have two means, religion and reason – and the two must never be separated ». Leprince de Beaumont is very much a precursor of the religious Enlightenment. Her contemporaries were totally aware of the religious and philosophical aspects of her original posture.
