- Abstract: How do picture-books intended for young readers give rise to new interpretations of La Belle et la Bête ? Nicole Claveloux’s illustrations create, in the margins of Leprince de Beaumont’s text, parallel universes in which hybridity becomes the norm : the frontier between human, animal, vegetable and mineral elements is blurred. The graphic gesture modifies shapes and invites the reader to delve into the surface which appears to screen reality and discover hidden depths.
