- Abstract: Our reading of Là où la mer commence (2001), by Dominique Dermers takes in that of the children’s picture book Annabel et la Bête, which she published five years later and which is clearly inspired by the novel. We look at the self-representative character of both texts and at the way in which they represent the universe of books. Demers reworked and modified some motifs of Leprince de Beaumont’s tale to showcase an approach to otherness which is present in some of her other texts.
