- Abstract: This article shows there is a triple tension between two contemporary plays (Bruno Castan, Belle des eaux, 1990 ; Alfredo Arias and René de Ceccatty, La Belle et les bêtes, 2005) and theiry hypotext, Leprince de Beaumont’s La Belle et la bête (1756) : in their genesis, their register and their status. They allow for a serious aim and a comic development. They oscillate between reading and representation. They invite young spectators as they claim, but also reach out to another, older, audience.
