- Abstract: Madīnat al-sa‘āda and Abū l-Ḥasan al-Muġaffal wa Hārūn al-Rašīd shed light on the challenges of a twofold physical displacement—in space and time and into another body. In an oneiric and utopian space, the awakened sleeper shifts the object of critique toward another world. Freed from spatiotemporal constraints, this new space opens the door to the possibility of reaching a politico-social ideal symbolized by the quest for an idealized masculinity or a society where the sexes are in balance with one another.
