- Abstract: In Sīnālkūl (2012), Ilyās Ḫūrī explores the theme of the search for identity through multiple representations of masculinity. The author not only deals with the effects of the Lebanese Civil War on the male body, but also the experience of migration as a way of looking for a new individual and collective identity. The female body obliges him to rethink his own masculinity and becomes the symbolic site of the protagonist’s search for identity.
