• Abstract: The novel is analysed in terms of the de-territorialisation and de-regulation which manifests itself in the mise en scène of geographic space as symbolic space (masculine – feminine, public – private, knowledge – ignorance). The narrative is organised around a process of de-territorialisation/ re-territorialisation which turns the account of a marginal childhood into an account of an apprenticeship in which the character is led to affirm his existence as a writer.
